Over the last one year I have nurtured a growing dislike of Karachiites. Today while driving back from work I realized something. The extreme level of violence and uncertainty and the complete collapse of society in the 80s and 90s that Karachiites have to live through has managed to destroy their souls.
Whenever we pass a snap judgement saying that people from Karachi are not trustworthy or that they are strange or that they work too hard and loose sight of the smaller things we should keep in mind that over a 10 year period Karachi was in a continuous state of war. Noone else in this country endured that.
What happened during those 10 years. In some way, at some level, by some method; it was a middle class revolution that was crushed with all the force that could be applied to destroy it. Before it spread to other cities and the conflagration destroyed the old structures. One city had to bear the brunt of that.
We should not judge too fast.
